Lt. Kelly Kincaid, 41, of Morganton died in the line of duty on Sunday, March 19, 2006.
He was born in Burke County on February 19, 1965 and was the son of Linda Dale Kincaid of Morganton and the late H. Mickey Kincaid, Jr.
Kelly was a lieutenant with the Burke County Sheriff's Office, a reserve fire fighter with Morganton Department of Public Safety, and a reserve police officer with Broughton Hospital.
On Wednesday March 22nd, 2006 Public safety members from around the region came out to honor a fallen comrade. Lt. Kelly Kincaid of the Burke County Sheriffs office and on call firefighter for Morganton, NC died 3/19/2006. Lt. Kincaid suffered a heart attack on Friday 3/17/2006 while fighting 2 separate house fires. The fires were later to be determined to be arson in nature and the individual who set them has been captured.
Known by many in the area, Lt. Kincaid had an infectious impression on everyone who met him. He really enjoyed helping others whether as a Police Office or as a Firefighter.
On this sunny blue sky day, over 300 fire-service and law enforcement members came out to show their respect. With the church filled to capacity, service filled to a next door hall where others were able to watch the service on closed circuit TV. As the service ended, rows of dress uniformed members lined up to salute their fallen comrade. Under the single ringing bell of the First Baptist Church, pallbearers carried out the American Flagged draped casket. With his wife in Lt. Kincaids patrol car, honor guard members proceeded to take the 1.25 mile walk to the Lts final resting place.
Over 200 vehicles and 150+ people made the trip to Forest Hill Cemetery. Once there and under both the majestic sounds of bugles and bag pipes, Lt. Kincaid received his deserved 21 gun salute. Both family and friends got the opportunity to give a final goodbye.
