Fire officials have announced that volunteer firefighter Todd W. Hage was killed when the fire truck he was driving overturned on the way to a call to an area elementary school.
The call came in shortly before 4:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon to the Wesley Chapel Volunteer Fire Department. The 43-year-old Hage was responding as the sole member inside the truck when it overturned near New Town and Waxhaw-Indian Trial Roads in Union County.
Hage leaves behind a wife and two young children. He has been a volunteer firefighter since the Spring of 2006, and was also a U.S. Navy veteran. Hage received the award of Rookie Firefighter of the Year in 2006.
This is the first time the Wesley Chapel Volunteer Fire Department has lost a member since it was founded in December 1975.
